Taken from :-  (link)shades.pngYou will have noticed that the field of view in BFBC2 seems fairly small by default and quite different to other FPS games we've played on the PC.

This is because BFBC2 measures FOV vertically in radians and not horizontally, which will affect people playing on Widescreen displays quite heavily.

Because of this, you might want to change the FoV you're using in Bad Company 2.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 FOV Calculator has a guide to working out what Vertical FoV you want if you're used to working in Horizontal FoVs, mine for example changed to 65 from 55 when using 1680x1050.

There's currently no way to change this setting in-game, so you'll need to update your settings.ini file manually. The default location is "My Documents\BFBC2". Open it with notepad and find the line that says something like "fov=55", change the number and save the file. If you can't find this line, you'll need to add it yourself. Just make sure it's somewhere under "[Graphics]" and then save and restart your game.

"What was that?" hissed Arthur.
"Something red," hissed Ford back at him.
"Where are we?"
"Er, somewhere green."

oh please note that the guy who wrote the page has got the values in his calculator backwards, the width is height and the height is width... Swapping them around gives results I think match the OOTB FoV.

I always check the .ini files for FOV (or hack it), which I why I changed mine asap to 75. Using this calc it advises 65 which is low. Setting it to 55fov is too console-like because of its zoomed in frame. 75 feels natural for best of both worlds.

Limpet: You sure he hasn't fixed it already? Swapping it around gives me 116fov from 90* (1680x1050) which is high. Another way to calculate it is to enter your screen ratio as either: 16(w):10(h) = 65fov; 16(w):9(h) = 59fov; 4(w):3(h) = 74fov. These results confirm its calculated vertically.

If you want, making it nearly 120fov, or even 200, makes it easier to track enemies sneaking up on you. Only set it this high if being a sniper with 12x optical zoom is your class & you can cope with the fish-eye effect.

yeah he's fixed it.

Went out and got a Dell P2210H from Overclockers today, (didn't realise how f'in far Stoke is from Cov). Now have a 5040x1050 desktop. I've brought it down to 60 for a 140deg view.

Thought he fixed it. And Stoke is just over an hour away (60-odd miles), thats nowt compared to how far I have to travel to get down south from Newcastle.

You tried to play BF2 with your 5770 on 3 screens? You know if you play at 5040x1050, you no longer need to use AA. With the EyeInifinty on 5000-series most people are making the most of their investment with 3 screens. Now it means your less likely to miss enemies in BF2 flanking you or us lot stabbing you

AA is off. Might have to get another two and go all the way to 5760x1080. Have now noticed that I've run out of CPU time and it might be time to replace the Athlon X2 5200 for something with a few more cores.

I've done Newcastle in a day from Cov, It was so nice to get to Leeds, felt like home was just around the corner. Full day on customer site and 8 hours of travelling. I must have been mad.

What I can't work out is why I thought it was just a quick trip up the road, rather than most of the bloody way to manchester...

We are all lightweights compared to bens travelling.

I used to go to Manchester with some mates to the Odeon IMax every 2 months & see a couple of movies & drink on the night - took 3 hours - we're all delighted with the IMax 3D at MetroCentre. Also took me 9 hours (with an hour stop off for food) to travel to Isle of Wight in 2008. Worst journey though was when I was still at comprehensive & travelled to Spain by coach... took 32 hours to get to Calella with nee stop offs, ahhh!
